Nothing shows up in Capture
- Confirm the session is actually running — the Capture tab's title shows a Live indicator while it is.
- Confirm you approved the VPN configuration prompt the first time you tapped Start. If you dismissed it, tap Start again.
- Some apps briefly cache a connection from before capture started — force-quit and relaunch the app you're testing.
Requests show up but look encrypted or unreadable
This is almost always the certificate. Walk through Certificate Setup again — both the profile install and the full-trust toggle are required, and it's easy to complete only the first one.
One specific host never becomes readable, no matter what
Check whether it's labeled as pinned traffic in the request detail. Certificate pinning is a platform-level limitation — the app itself refuses any certificate authority but its own, including Hollowport's, so no interception tool can decrypt it. Banking apps and Apple's own push/iCloud Private Relay traffic are the most common examples.
The VPN approval prompt never appeared
On a company- or school-managed device, installing a VPN configuration may be restricted or require admin approval — check with whoever manages the device. On your own device, check Settings → General → VPN & Device Management for an existing Hollowport entry that may need to be removed and re-added.
Capture stops unexpectedly during a long session
The Network Extension runs under a tighter memory budget than the app itself, and iOS can end it under memory pressure — most commonly during a burst of app switching or a lot of concurrent, image-heavy traffic. If this happens repeatedly during a specific workflow, tell us about it — see below.
Battery or performance impact
Running an on-device Network Extension does use some extra battery and CPU while active, the same as any VPN-based tool. Tap Stop when you're not actively debugging.
